The Boyne

The Boyne get cosy in Wallingford before exciting times in Toronto

The Boyne company returned to Connecticut after a break of almost two years. New Haven was where the Boyne originally opened back in September of 2003 and in late September 2005 we traveled to nearby Wallingford for a week long stay. It was a relatively quiet week after the hustle and bustle of Boston. It was also a great week to save money on meals because our rooms had kitchens. Dinner parties and in-room movies were popular post show activities. A bunch of the cast members have recently become huge fans of the television series "Lost" and they spent several nights catching up on the first season with DVDs of the show.

The CN Tower in Toronto

After a week off from big city life we headed to Toronto-the biggest city in Canada. The weather was noticeably cooler and more rainy up north but that didn't keep us in our rooms. Our hotel was connected by a series of underground sidewalks to several malls-the closest being the Eaton Center-the 3 rd largest mall in the country. In between dashing from store to store we also managed to fit in some sightseeing. The Canadian National Tower (CN Tower for short) reaches high above the Toronto skyline and offers visitors the opportunity to get a bird's eye view of the city after traveling at 15 miles per hour straight up in the tower elevator.

The view from the top of the Niagara Falls

Our stay in Toronto lasted two weeks so we had the Monday off between weeks. This was a perfect day to go see Niagara Falls which was just a short drive from the city. The falls are famous for their size and strength but any description of them that you might have heard or read can in no way compare to seeing them in person. There is a lookout at the top just as the river begins to cascade over the edge, a ground level viewing platform where you can stand literally feet away from the crashing water on the rocks at the base, and a tunnel which is dug into the rock and allows you to walk just behind the falls. The best, though, was a ride on the boat "The Maid in the Mist". We were given plastic ponchos to wear and then taken up the river to the very base of the falls. The boat was rocking back and forth and we all got drenched with the mist coming off the falls but it was well worth it to experience the sheer force of Mother Nature.

As far as the show went for these two weeks - we had a wonderful run. Canada always gives us a warm reception when we have the good fortune to visit. The theatre we were playing in used to belong to the famous Pantages Theatre group and was recently purchased by the Canon company. This proved to be a very fortunate thing for us as Canon threw us a fabulous party at one of the local restaurants. Several of their company members who had been at the show that night were at the party. They applauded us as we arrived and we were happy to sign autographs and pose for pictures with them.
