The Boyne
The troupe relax in Pennsylvania after hectic times in NY

We were all very sad to leave New York as it (and the 10th anniversary of the show) was one of the most fun stops in the history of the Boyne. After all that excitement and the hectic pace we kept there it was nice to have a quiet couple of weeks. Our next stop was Erie, Pennsylvania. This town is probably most commonly associated with Lake Erie (one of the five great lakes which can be found in North America) which was just about 10 blocks from our hotel. The lake itself is vast-you can't even see the other side, or any other land around it for that matter, when you are standing on the shore. Because it was late March, and the weather in the north is still quite cold then, the edges of the lake were still frozen and seagulls and Canadian geese were all walking around on the ice. There were several restaurants down by the lake which looked like they would be lovely in the summer but due to the cold, late winter weather they were closed when we were there.

Some of the towns we visit have a themed statue or figure that they decide to showcase and then these statues (all identical) are distributed to businesses or artists in the town to decorate and display outside their offices. We've seen cows, bulls, cars, dolphins and in Erie they had frogs. This made it really fun to walk around the downtown area and see the different creative ways all the people decided to outfit their frogs.

We had a fantastic evening in Erie at a restaurant called the Paper Moon. The owner invited us all down for a drink and dinner which just happened to coincide with two of the troupe boys' birthdays, so it was a sort of impromptu birthday celebration. They allowed us to stay at the restaurant late and even brought out a karaoke machine which we were all eager to try out.

Easter fell on the Sunday in Erie. We had the day off and although there wasn't much open we still had a relaxing day watching movies at the hotel or catching up on sleep.

We had a few more stops in Pennsylvania after Erie. The next one was York. The hotel where we stayed was a beautiful old historical building complete with large guest rooms, crystal chandeliers and an elegant four star restaurant. The night we arrived a lot of Riverdancers were eager to take advantage of such fine dining in our hotel and the restaurant ended up being full of cast members.

Just behind the theater was an indoor market which was open in the morning/early afternoon a few days a week. It was a great place to walk around and browse the craft stalls or pick up a bite to eat at any one of the many food stands. It seemed to be a local hot spot as it was very crowded especially on the weekend mornings.

Doing the show in the weeks following Radio City was a bit of an adjustment. Just as we needed extra practice to transfer and adjust our normal show to such a large stage it took some concentration and focus to scale it back down after two weeks in New York. By the beginning of the week in York I think everyone was comfortable again with 'our' show and if they had been put in new spots for the dances in Radio City they were now comfortable again with their original positions. Being adaptable to different situations is one of the key things that is important as a Riverdancer and the transition to Radio City and then back to our regular show is a perfect example of this.
