The Boyne

Pam and Carolyn discover Niagara Falls from the air

The last couple of weeks have been pretty relaxing out here with the Boyne. From Baltimore we headed back up to Canada, this time to London, Ontario. To our surprise, the name of the city isn't all it shares with the English one. There was much fun to be had exploring the sights, from the Thames River, to Trafalgar Square - even Covent Garden Market could be found in the centre of the town. The only thing missing was the Queen.

For myself, the highlight of this week had to be our trip to see one of the seven wonders of the world: Niagara Falls. And just to make it all the more exciting, we were flown over in a small hired plane, piloted by our very own multi-talented Musical Director, Kennedy.

Being in such a small aircraft was an experience in itself - there were moments when we felt we ought to be flapping our arms! - but to see the falls from above was a totally breath taking experience. Particularly when our supervising flying instructor pointed out that we were actually looking at the wrong waterfall. Oops.

Many of the company took a day to go and see the falls up close, riding on the "Maid of the Mist", donning their plastic macs and getting completely drenched - but it sounds like it was well worth it.

Once we had all dried out, we moved on to Appleton, Wisconsin. This may be a small town, but we loved it! Many hours were spent sunbathing (yes, again) in the nearby park, and exploring the vibrant local nightlife. I feel particularly proud that I managed to pluck up the courage to try sushi for the first time. I'm now officially converted!

Myself and dancers Charlene and Timmy went on a trip to nearby Milwaukee to visit ex-Riverdancer Aileen Cronin. We spent a wonderful evening with her at her home, catching up on all the news and gossip, relaxing in her back garden and playing with Hobo the dog. It was so lovely to be in a real home doing "normal" things for once - a rare treat when you're out on tour!

Our week in Appleton was concluded by a surprise party after the last show, partly to celebrate Deirdre's birthday, partly to say goodbye to yet another dancer, Craig, as he flies off to join the Dublin troop. I'm pleased to say both looked suitably shocked, and a great night had by all - but we'd rather you weren't leaving us Craig!

Mineapolis next week. Someone had better warn the "Mall of America" to stock up. See you next time...!
