Charity works are planned in Augusta and we receive a warm welcome in chilly Cincinnati

From an old south city in Alabama we next traveled to another southern city, Augusta, Georgia. It was a rather quiet, old fashioned town. There was one main street a few blocks from our hotel which had a mix of old stores with newer coffee houses and restaurants. It was fun to walk around, wandering into the pawn shops and antique dealers trying to find some kind of looked-over treasure. There was also a large river located about a block from our hotel in the other direction. It was lined with large, extravagant houses in many colors like pink and blue. There was a path down by the water and it was fun to walk along, looking at the houses and deciding which one we'd want if we could have any of them.

It was in Augusta that we kicked off our work for the organization Broadway Cares. They are a group who invite different Broadway and touring shows to help them raise money for families affected by HIV/AIDS and cancer. The money that we raise will go toward helping these people pay for expenses such as medical care, medicine, food, rent that they would be otherwise unable to pay. The entire cast was busy this week autographing posters and programs which we will sell at the shows beginning in Cincinnati. We also had to organize a schedule of dancers to stand in the lobby after the shows in Cincinnati and Minneapolis to collect money from the audience. We are all very excited about this fundraiser as it is for a great cause and we hope to raise as much money as possible to help out. If you are interested in making a donation to Broadway Cares through Riverdance please contact Michael Camp at machoosier@aol.com.

Cincinnati 1
So far we had been able to avoid the cooler fall weather by staying in southern cities but after Augusta we traveled north to Cincinnati, Ohio where we got our first real taste of fall. It didn't bother us much, though because we had kitchens in our rooms so most people just stayed in their hotel rooms, enjoying the chance to cook our own meals. Cincinnati is very close to the border of Ohio and Kentucky so we actually had to go into Kentucky to do our grocery shopping. The taxi drivers seemed a little bit surprised at the amount of food and, consequently the number of bags we had to take back to the hotel but we managed to squeeze everyone in.
Cincinnati 2

It was a nice change to be back in a big city after the smaller ones we had been visiting recently. The crowds were great too. The theater was very big and had several levels of seats which were full of very enthusiastic, supportive fans every night. We also had an amazing crew in Cincinnati. There were several TV's and a large picnic table that they kept filled with snacks in the loading dock area. On the weekend when we had two shows they even brought in a crock pot and skillet to make chili dip and sausages for us. It was really thoughtful and everyone enjoyed their generous show of hospitality.
