What´s the question you are asked the most when people realize you are a Riverdancer?
´How hard is that dancing on your legs?´ To which I reply ´Well it´s tough but i´m sure it´s harder for the dancers!´
Do you have any rituals you have to do before going onstage?
I bless myself before I go onstage every night and plenty of other little things but they are far too silly to put down in writing!
When and why did you decide you wanted to be in Riverdance?
I heard about the audition on a Friday evening, made the phonecall to the music department and organised an audition for Monday morning.
Where did you audition and what was it like?
In Dublin, it should have been nerve-wrecking but it was such a rush to learn the songs and travel up that the whole thing passed in a bit of a blur!
How did you feel when you heard you had been offered a place in the show?
Very weird because I was told I probably had it but it wasn´t confirmed therefore I was stuck in a limbo being estatic at the prospect but not being absolutely sure it would happen.
Favorite part of the show?
Firedance is my favorite part of the show and I never tire of watching it or hearing the music.
Best Riverdance moment?
The opportunity to walk on the Great Wall of China when performing with the Flying Squad there in May 04.
Most embarrassing Riverdance moment?
Having a frog appear in my throat in the middle of the second verse of Cloudsong and my voice completely disappeared for a moment. I couldn´t be embarrassed for long though as I had to recover and sing the rest of it....torture!
At what age did you start playing music?
I was 5 when I started music theory in the Cork School of Music.
What do you do in your free time on tour?
I try to do as muich sightseeing as possible. This was particularly enjoyable in amazing Alaska. Other than that my other favourite pastime is shopping! I´m a shopaholic, especially for shoes.
If you could only take 2 comfort things on tour what would they be?
1) My photo album scrapbook with picturs of my friends, family and the craic I ahve at home. 2) Irish chocolate
What did you like most about music?
I loved singing in class, learning the parts of the songs and harmonising them. |
