At
the 17th Century Royal Hospital Kilmainham there is a unique blend
of the old and new. Since 1991 this historic and tranquil haven
has been the home to the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
The
challenge for the Flying Squad was to transform the grand
hall into an auditorium for 200 guests with full proscenium arch
staging. The building did not have the required facilities for the
performance, so the Flying Squad production team brought
in a power generator, full staging with a dance floor, a motorised
lighting rig, follow-spot towers, sound and lighting desks, monitors
and set dressing. Makeshift dressing rooms were constructed behind
the hall in a deconsecrated church with a quick-change area built
to the rear of the stage. The fit-up took three days in total with
a crew of 15. After the performance the crew worked through the
night to restore the hall to its original state.
